How do you prepare infant formula?
NAN Infant Formulas FAQs

Preparation instructions will vary depending on the formula stage and type and these can be found on the label of the formula you are using.  How you prepare infant formula will depend on the stage and type of formula you’re using. Before you begin, it’s really important that you follow all directions carefully and accurately.

For SUPREMEpro, OPTIPRO and COMFORT Stages 1 & 2 formula, please use the following preparation instructions:

  1. Wash your hands carefully.
  2. Wash bottle, teat and cap thoroughly. Boil for 5 minutes. Leave covered until use.
  3. Boil drinking water and allow to cool until lukewarm (40°C)
  4. Consult feeding table. First, pour water into the bottle. Then, add powder using only the scoop provided. Level scoop using inner rim of can.
  5. Make sure the scoop is dry and suspend scoop on inner rim of can. Close lid tightly after each use and store in a cool dry place.
  6. Cap the feeding bottle, and shake well until powder is fully dissolved. Check temperature before feeding the baby. Feed immediately. It is safer to feed immediately after prepared.
  • To maintain the number of live cultures, the boiled water must be cooled down to about body temperature before adding the powder.
  • Use only the enclosed scoop. Using more or less powder than indicated will either lead to dehydration or deprive your baby of proper nutrition
  • Prepare each bottle individually. Formula left in the bottle after a feed must be discarded.
  • Always hold baby while feeding, leaving baby unattended may cause choking.

Can I prepare infant formula and keep it in the fridge?
NAN Infant Formulas FAQs

Simply put, no – we do not recommend you prepare infant formula and keep it in the fridge for later use. Each bottle should be prepared individually, and any leftover formula at the end of each feed should be thrown out.

How should you transition from one infant formula to another?
NAN Infant Formulas FAQs

Your baby may better adapt when changes in feeding are introduced gradually. To ease the transition, alternating between your baby’s current formula and their new formula over time may help. It’s important however, that you don’t mix existing formula with the new in the same bottle. We recommend starting by swapping out the morning feed first. This is so you can easily monitor for any adverse reactions. Then over the coming days, slowly continue to swap out subsequent feeds. Do this until all feeds have been completely swapped out to the new formula, transitioning the night time feeds last.  Give your baby time to adapt to this new routine as it can take somewhere up to 2 weeks to fully transition to a new formula.

How do you store a tin of NAN infant formula once it is opened?
NAN Infant Formulas FAQs

Your baby’s infant formula can be stored up to 3 weeks after opening.  After each time you use it, close the lid tightly and place it in a cool dry place.  Discard any unused formula after those 3 weeks.

Are the scoop sizes in all NAN infant formulas the same size?
NAN Infant Formulas FAQs

The scoop sizes from NAN infant formula will vary between each formula type. You’ll be able to find the average scoop weight located right underneath the tin’s ingredients panel.

Only ever use the scoop provided with your tin, and do not alter the recommended recipe of powder and water without seeking medical advice. Using more or less than the suggested powder and water can make your baby sick from dehydration or deprive them of the proper nutrition needed to support their growth.

Is NAN Packaging Recyclable?
NAN Infant Formulas FAQs
NAN Toddler FAQs

We are committed to making 100% of our packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025. We are rolling out the inclusion of the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL) on all our products including NAN Toddler tins. The ARL shows that the tin, lid, scoop and the foil seal (when made in a ball) are all recyclable. The tamper evidence tab is the one packaging piece that should go in the bin as it is too small to be captured within the recycling system – we’ll keep working on finding a recycling solution for this.

CERELAC infant cereals are the ideal foundation of an early diet and should be consumed as part of a varied diet. Nestlé CERELAC is a nutritionally adapted complementary food made especially for your baby

What makes CERELAC different to other Infant Cereals?
CERELAC FAQs

Nestlé CERELAC Infant Cereals are the only infant cereals in Australia to contain probiotics. CERELAC is also made with a special technology called CHE (Cereals Hydrolysed Enzymatically) which breaks down carbohydrates into smaller components. Contact our Careline for more information.

Where does the sugar come from? I see sugars present in the Nutritional Information Panel?
CERELAC FAQs

Baby Rice and Oats & Wheat variants – CERELAC is made with a special technology called CHE (Cereals Hydrolysed Enzymatically) which breaks down carbohydrates into smaller components. During this CHE process, sugars are produced when the complex carbohydrates are ‘chopped’ up into smaller components. Note: all available carbohydrates when digested in the body, form simple sugars.

Oats & Wheat with Prune, Multigrain with Pear, and Multigrain with Banana & Apple variants – A combination of the CHE process as above, as well as fruit sugars (from the prune, pear, banana and apple).

Why do I have to use the Rice cereal first and not the other varieties?
CERELAC FAQs

A rice-based infant cereal has been a long-standing tradition as one of the first foods of an infant’s diet. Its smooth texture and mild flavour make it stage and age appropriate and therefore suitable for an infant’s introduction to solids before a diverse and complex range of foods are introduced later in their diet

Is it OK to give my baby less or more than the suggested serving size on pack?
CERELAC FAQs

All infants vary and your baby will let you know if they require more or less. It is important to note the nutritional information provided on pack reflects the recommended serve size. If your baby is eating less, the nutritional benefits of the product will also be lower.

However, you may find the suggested serving size for CERELAC a little too much if this is your baby’s first solid food. You only need to start with around half to one teaspoon once or twice a day, slowly increasing the quantity to two to three tablespoons as your baby progresses. To get all the great benefits of CERELAC (such as supporting the immune system with Iron and Vitamin C), you can meet the recommended serve over a couple of meals throughout the day as part of a varied diet. You can also find great recipes on our website with CERELAC. If you need further guidance or are concerned about your baby’s eating, we recommend you consult your health care professional.

Can I mix CERELAC infant cereals with breast milk?
CERELAC FAQs

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage you to mix CERELAC with baby’s usual milk as they are used to this taste and may learn to accept new tastes and textures more readily. Note that if prepared with breast milk, the cereal may become more watery as the enzymes in breast milk can start breaking down the cereal.

Can I alter the amount of cereal or liquid based on my child's preferences / textures?
CERELAC FAQs

The ratio of liquid to cereal has been developed to ensure appropriate texture and consistency. Also keep in mind that the nutrition information has been devised from the recommended serve size i.e. 15g cereal for CERELAC Baby Rice and 21g cereal for all other CERELAC varieties, so by altering the amount of cereal you are altering the nutrients your child will receive.
